Dr. Shotaro Uto
was born in Chiba, Japan in January 1960. In 1985 graduated from Osaka University, majoring on naval architecture. Started his carreer in Tokyo, Japan as a researcher of Ship Research Institute, Ministry of Transport (currently reorganized as National Maritime Research Institute) since 1985 and worked for ship, ocean and ice engineering. In 1987-88 and 2001-2002, joined Japanese Antarctic Research Expedition for measurement of ship performance in ice and observation of sea ice. In 2000-2001, a visiting researcher of Helsinki University of Technology. In April 2016, appointed as a senior research director of National Maritime Research Institute.
